My Turn

My daughter and my granddaughter.

My turn to tell you how I feel. I've been going through a difficult time. I'm a Pediatric Nurse. I take care of a lot of oncology patients. One of my brave little patients lost his battle with cancer on Saturday. He would sing a song called This Little Light of Mine. I have to tell you that this 6year old was a light in this world and I'm sad we've lost him but blessed with the privilege of being one of his nurses. My heart breaks for his family and they will always be a part of my heart.
I guess blogs shouldn't be about sad. But maybe its more about living. If you have a child in your life thank God today for him or her. Give them an extra hug, try not to lose your patience over that spilled glass of milk or juice. If you have a grown child, thank God you were able to see them become adults.
Now, I promise to have some pictures of my wonderful spring on here later today.

Just a little left

I would share some of my cream cheese pound cake with you. This is my absolute favorite cake. One of my nephews asked for it for his birthday.

Mr. Scrap prefers pie.

Hmmm, I wonder if that is why he took half the cake to the neighbors the other day when I suggested he take a piece to them.

Cream Cheese pound cake

Cream together until light and fluffy.

1 1/2 cups butter (don't even think about using margarine)
1 8oz block of cream cheese (both should be at room temperature)
Add 3 cups sugar 1cup at a time, cream well.

Beat in 6 eggs one at a time

Add 1 tsp salt to 3 cups all purpose flour and add slowly to creamed mixture.

Add 2 tsps vanilla

Pour into greased and floured Bundt pan.
Bake at 325 about 1 hour 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Try it. It is so good.

Add

I want to go back to the beach

I love the beach. I could live there. These are some of my favorite pictures from one of our favorite vacation spots.

The Flower beds

For years I've been filling the holes in the concrete blocks with dirt and planting things to cover the whole top of the wall. This part looks pretty good. This is a retaining wall beside our drive way. I need to do some more planting here.

A close up of the phlox.

One of my favorite trees has been in bloom. Redbuds grow wild around here. The dogwoods are in bloom, too. I love spring.

Eight years ago today

This little girl came into our lives and we became grandparents. Being a grandparent is a special part of life.

Of course there are days when she says "No Nannie, no more pictures".

Spring, spring, spring

Spring is here. Well, if you call going from needing the heat on one week and needing the air conditioner the next spring. More like going from winter to summer.

It is beautiful. I drive around looking at everything in bloom.
I'm ready to start filling the planters with flowers.
